Directed Seeding - Cancelled Crop (Finsterwolde, Holland, 1969)

Dennis Oppenheim

One of the starting points of land art in the Netherlands was the farm of farmer Waalkens in Finsterwolde. This farmer was captivated by the new art form and opened his barn to artists, under the motto 'cows out, art in'. American Dennis Oppenheim made a work for this place on one of the fields - a fine example of a temporary and transient land art work. And so anyone who thinks that agriculture and art are always at odds with each other is wrong.
